According to my sister, Pat, this painting was completed in less than a half an hour. Dick was returing from painting in the area and stopped in Topanga Canyon and liked the particular spot. Pat had commented several times on the stiffness of his approach to paintingso when dick returned with this painting he asked her what she thought. She answered that she thought it was so much looser and exciting. she would have been around fourteen years of age in 1953.
