Dick painted many scenic historical sites such as Bunker Hill, Santa Monica Pier, San Pedro Pier, Capistrano Depot in California and the Hanley House in Clayton , Missouri, and Harpers Ferry here. Harpers Ferry is a town in Jefferson County, easternmost West Virginia, at the confluence of the Shenandoah and Potomac rivers. In 1859 the U.S. arsenal was seized by American abolitionist John Brown. He was later captured in a fire engine house.
This piece was from the estate of Robert Gumbiner, a physician and HMO pioneer who built the managed-care giant FHP and then used his fortune to found the Museum of Latin American Art in Long Beach. Clark Cierlak Fine Arts,14452 Ventura Blvd., Sherman Oaks, CA. handled the sale.
